About Dr. Maggie Brown-Bury
Dr. Brown-Bury was born in Prince Edward Island, and grew up in Southeastern Ontario. After obtaining a BScH in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph in 2005, she completed her DVM from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009. Shortly after finishing school, she moved to St John’s to work as a general practitioner in a busy small animal practice, where she did on call work and gained experience in many aspects of veterinary medicine, including exotics medicine, surgery, critical care, and emergency work. Dr. Brown-Bury began working as a relief vet for VSCNL’s emergency department in March of 2016, which helped her determine that while she enjoyed many aspect of general practice, her true passion in veterinary medicine lay in emergency and critical care. Dr. Brown-Bury became a full-time member of the VSCNL team in October of 2016.
Dr. Brown-Bury is actively involved in the veterinary profession. She has sat on the Newfoundland and Labrador Veterinary Medical Association Council since 2011, and has been president since 2014. Dr. Brown-Bury has represented Newfoundland and Labrador on the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association since 2014. She has spoken in the local media regarding animal health issues, both in print, radio, and on television.
Dr. Brown-Bury shares her home with 3 cats, a Canadian Champion Rottweiler, and her fiancé. When taking a break from veterinary medicine she enjoys many hobbies, including hiking, running, knitting, and reading – depending on the weather on her days off!
