Ho! Ho! Hold the Decorations!
For many, it’s exciting to decorate for the holidays. If you have pets, home decorating takes on an added element - pet safety. If you’re planning to put out decorations, or maybe buy a few new items - Ho! Ho! Hold the decorations!
We recommend you ask yourself this question before you buy or put them up: “will my pet be able to chew on this?”
What should you buy?
Fake flowers and plants are a much safer decorating choice versus real ones. Holly and mistletoe are toxic and can result in an emergency vet visit if ingested.
Poinsettias are not particularly toxic, but are an irritant if chewed on. Eating this plant can lead to an unpleasant experience for your pet.
Keep wires for lights and other decorations well protected. A dog or cat can receive a bad shock chewing on Christmas light cords!
It’s always better to err on the side of caution and keep decorations out of a dog’s reach.
If you keep these few suggestions in mind your home will be cozy, beautifully decorated as well and safe for your pet. Stay tuned for more holiday tips.
