Today’s Donor Could Be Tomorrow’s Receiver
As a 24-hour referral and emergency hospital, many of the cases we treat require life-saving blood transfusions such as:
- Severe trauma (i.e., motor vehicle accidents, dog attacks, arterial cuts)
- Rat bait toxicity
- Von Willebrands disease (common in Dobermans)
- Haemophilia
- Haemolytic anemia (destruction of red cells secondary to immune mediated diseases or onion toxicity)
- Immune mediated thrombocytopenia (destruction of platelets)
- Life threatening infections
- Cancer
