How does a radiologist help your pet? | Veterinary Specialty Centre - St. John's NL

How does a radiologist help your pet?

Radiologists are trusted partners in both diagnostic and treatment plans for your pet. They use multiple imaging methods to diagnose different diseases and injuries, they collaborate with our specialists and veterinarians to come up with the optimal treatment plan.?

Primary care veterinarians may refer their patients to VSCNL for diagnostic imaging or submit radiographs for specialist interpretation.

Why does VSC offer radiology services?
Ultrasound technology is an effective tool to improve diagnosis and treatment for your pet. We are fortunate to have Dr. Woodland, a board-certified Veterinary Radiologist, as part of our team. ?Dr. Woodland supports our emergency and surgery departments and also provides referral services to the general practices across the province. Your primary care veterinarian can refer to Dr. Woodland as part of the diagnostic process, ensuring the most complete and accurate assessment of your pet’s condition.

Why would my pet need an ultrasound?
An ultrasound is a very useful tool in veterinary medicine. It can be a less-invasive way to diagnose and treat your pet. Having your pet's ultrasound done by Veterinary Radiologist ensures the most thorough and expert exam possible. A Radiologist can catch subtle changes a less trained eye may miss.

How experienced is the radiologist in taking these scans?
It takes years of practice for a veterinarian to fully harness the potential of this tool.
A Veterinary Radiologist  undergoes a 4 year residency program with a majority of that time focused on performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations.
